Share Your World #23

Cee’s Share Your World for this week:

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

My dad got me a summer job at Buick after my freshman year in college in the data processing department (back in the days of a giant main frame and tons of reels or disks (can’t remember) that needed to be gathered and filed — that was me, gathering and filing from midnight to 8.  I’m pretty sure that was my first ever job.

Most of my jobs for a long time after that were secretarial either temp or part-time because I turned out to be an ace typist after my one semester class in high school — 120 wpm…  I scoff at people who think typing on a computer is fast 🙂 …  they won’t let you come anywhere near that speed without freezing and the keyboards aren’t really well laid out for it.

What is your favorite month of the year?

Depends on where I’m living.  In Chicago and Michigan I love October, when the trees are glorious and there’s often a wonderful Indian Summer of warm, dry days.  In the Bay area, I love the months of summer — same basic weather as Indian Summer but stretching for months.  In Kentucky I love April, when blooming bushes, trees and plants color the landscape and perfume the air…  and the temperatures are generally pleasant

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?

  1. bodies of water — whether it’s a lake, a river, an ocean, I love to be by water
  2. mountain vistas — especially mountains covered with trees, though I’m also rather fond of the colorful mountains in northern New Mexico
  3. an herb garden

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)

Okay, I’m going to leave out the ones I think of as herbs rather than spices, so some fave flavorings aren’t here:

For baking:

  1. cinnamon
  2. nutmeg
  3. ginger
  4. cloves
  5. vanilla
  6. orange peel

For more savory things:

  1. garlic
  2. curry
  3. onions (which aren’t technically a spice, I guess, but add the same kind of flavor)
  4. cayenne

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

We decided to postpone the trip we were going to take this week and a feeling of uneasiness I’d been having instantly lifted.  Feel fine about the new dates.  Looking forward to a really quiet week that was supposed to be incredibly busy.

  1. I like you choices in spices. I am one of those natural typists too. Highest I ever tested at was 208 and that was on the old IBM selectric typewriters. There is a rhythm if you really know how to type. I am so glad most keyboards are quiet today, because hearing someone type not in a rhythm really bothers me. LOL

    • Oh yes, the Selectrics were the best for fast typing. Wow 208 is amazing. When I tested at 120 my office mate said she could hear that i slowed down for the test but I doubt my normal speed was anywhere near that.
I know what you mean about the rhythm. And really, since people are typing all over the place these days, thank goodness for the quiet because in rhythm or not the cacophony would be horrible!
